Obituary

Funeral services for Elaine E. De Smyter, 63, of East Moline, IL, will be 10:00 AM Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline. Interment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline. Visitation will be 3-7 PM Thursday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Elaine died Sunday, December 30, 2007 at Trinity Pathway Hospice, Bettendorf, IA, after a painful battle with cancer. In lieu of flowers, a memorials fund has been established. Elaine Trouesdale was born June 12, 1944, in Baldwinsville, NY, the daughter of Windsor and Estella (Baldwin) Trouesdale. She married Tom De Smyter November 8, 1963 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline. At age 43, after raising her three children, she graduated from Black Hawk College School of Nursing. She had worked many years at the former Aspenwood Health Care Center, Silvis, IL and most recently at Orthopedic and Rheumatology Associates, Moline, IL. Elaine had enjoyed working and helping people through the years. She enjoyed traveling and especially taking day trips with her husband. She also enjoyed playing cards and bingo with her friends. Her world revolved around her family. She loved spending time with her family and attending her children's and grandchildren's sporting events. Survivors include: her husband, Tom De Smyter, of East Moline; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Paul Gonzales of Coal Valley, IL, daughter and partner, Lori De Smyter and Toscha Clausen of Spring Grove, IL; son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Michelle De Smyter of East Moline; grandchildren, Nicholas and Brittney Gonzales, Madison De Smyter; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jean and Sven Edwards of Springhill, FL, Cynthia and Dennis Smith of Cato, NY, Brenda and John Cunningham of Flemington, NJ, Darlene and Gary Johnson Springhill, Mary and Billy Carter of Cato, NY; brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Melanie Trouesdale, of Syracuse, NY, Sanford and Debra Trouesdale of Lake Alfred, FL, Mike and Colleen Trouesdale of Port Byron, NY, Richard Trouesdale of St. Petersburg, FL; many nieces and nephews.
