Obituary

Funeral services for Elfrieda Katsis, 94, Silvis, formerly of East Moline, are 11 AM Wednesday at Christ United Methodist Church, East Moline. Burial is in Riverside Cemetery, Moline. Visitation is 4-7 PM Tuesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Elfrieda died Saturday, November 1, 2008 at her home, the Lighthouse in Silvis. Elfrieda Hartz was born August 30, 1914 in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Ella (Guelck) Hartz. She graduated from Port Byron High School and Moline Business College. She married Peter Katsis on February 13, 1938 in Davenport. She had worked as a secretary for the former American Machine and Metals, East Moline. She truly loved ballroom dancing, entertaining friends and family, playing cards and Bingo. She and her husband enjoyed trips to Florida and Arizona. She dearly loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Elfrieda and two others, had their own radio show on WOC Radio announced by Ronald Reagan, where the three sang as a trio, known as the Sun Downers. She is survived by: daughters and sons-in-law Claudette M. (Nick) Jannes, East Moline, and Donna R. (Joe) Fleischaker, Chicago, grandchildren Christopher P. (Jodi) Jannes, Jonathan A. (Christine) Jannes, Elise M. Fleischaker, Dana E. (Bill) Rochowicz and Hilary A. (Dan) Burns, five great grandchildren; Madeline, Claudia, Ava, Nick and Charlotte. She is preceded in death by her husband Pete, four sisters and a brother.
