Funeral services for Elizabeth Holmes, 83, East Moline, are 10 AM Monday, July 2, 2007 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial is in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Visitation is 2-5 PM Sunday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 4:30 PM. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Church to have masses said for Elizabeth. She died Thursday, June 28, 2007 at Genesis Medical Center-Illini Campus, Silvis. Elizabeth was born July 22, 1923 in Liverpool, England, the daughter of William and Mary Ellen (McQue) Smith. She married Joseph Holmes on January 14, 1942 in Liverpool. Joe died on February 12, 2003. Elizabeth had worked as head cook at the former Americana, Moline and East Moline Care Center. She enjoyed knitting, working crosswords, playing bingo and going for long drives in the country. Survivors include children and spouses George and Elaine Holmes, Tony and Sharon Holmes, Madge Rylander, all of East Moline, and Joan and Dale Curless, Moline, daughter-in-law Gillian Holmes, Moline, fifteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and a sister Mary Holmes, Moline. In addition to her husband, her son Joe Jr, a granddaughter Bobby Jo, a brother and 2 sisters precede her in death.
