Emil R. Schinckel, 89, Moline, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis. Funeral services are 11 AM Saturday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct military honors. Visitation is from 9 AM until service time. Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Foundation. Emil was born September 14, 1927 in Grinnell, IA, the son of George and Alice (Van Branteghen) Schinckel. He served in the US Army during WWII. He married Dorothy Ruby on August 13, 1949 in East Moline. Emil retired from Quality Control from John Deere Harvester Works, East Moline. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, working in the yard and most of all his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife Dorothy, daughters, Sandra (Gary) Armstrong, Rock Island, Linda (Demos) Mekus, East Moline, Deborah (George) Apostolopoulos, Moline, Pamela (Russell) Frohock, Kemmerer, WY and Candace (Kent) Donis, Fresno, CA, eight grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and a sister Joan Sellers, Moline. He was preceded in death by his son Robert Michael Schinckel and seven brothers and sisters.
