Ercell Eugene "Gene" Thompson, 86, East Moline, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2017 at his home. Funeral services are 11 AM Friday at Homewood Evangelical Church, Moline. Visitation is 4-7 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Homewood Evangelical Church, Moline, where he was a member. Gene was born December 6, 1930 in Dixon, IL, the son of Ercell and Helen (Spencer) Thompson. He and his first wife Marilyn had 4 children and were together for 42 years. He married Doris McHenry on July 4, 1998. Mr. Thompson worked in the Medusa Cement Plant in Dixon, and later at The Dixon Evening Telegraph. Survivors include his wife Doris, brother, Jim Thompson, Dixon, children, Kelly (Scott) Hess, David (Bonnie) Thompson, and Steven (Annette) Thompson, all of Dixon, stepchildren, Larry McHenry II, Silvis, Dori (Daniel) Cosgrove, Moline, and Teresa (Curt) Jackson, East Moline, 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, great-grandchild and 2 brothers.
