Ernestine L. Long, 82, of Rock Island, IL, passed away Sunday April 19, 2026, at her home in Rock Island.
Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 24th, at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, IL, where visitation will be one hour prior to services. Interment will be at St. Mary Cemetery, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the Breakthrough T1D (formerly Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) or to the American Heart Association.
Ernestine was born December 2, 1943, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, to George and Maxine (Glandon) Morrow. She married Jerry L. Long on June 1, 1963, in Barstow, IL. He preceded her in death on June 26, 1998.
She was employed at Moline Public Hospital for many years, retiring in 1992. Following her retirement, she worked at Wal-Mart’s in Oskaloosa and Davenport.
Ernestine loved sports and was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. She also enjoyed following the Iowa Hawkeye men’s and women’s sports, Caitlin Clark and Indiana Fever Basketball. She enjoyed reading, volunteering at the Festival of Trees and John Deere Golf Classic.
Some of her favorite times were those spent with family and friends making memories. She will be fondly remembered as a wonderful mom, grandma and great grandma.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Denice Evans, East Moline, Rebecca (Gary) Buckrop, Rock Island, and Mary (Lupe) Prieto, Rock Island; grandchildren, Joey Long, Joshua DeCrane, Brandon DeCrane, Clayton Buckrop, Jacob (Rajiya) Buckrop, Matthew Buckrop, Kayla (Sam) Raines and Mariah Prieto; great grandchildren, Parker, Gage, Raidyn, Amaily, Harper and Clementine; brother Jim Mitchell; and several nieces and nephews, and their families.
Ernestine was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; son, Michael Long; parents, George and Maxine; two brothers in infancy and brother, George Morrow; and her sister, Wanda Dittmer.
