Obituary

Esther Novak went home to her Heavenly Father on Thursday, June 23, 2011, after a long and fulfilled life of 100 years. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline, IL. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Esther was born March 24, 1911 the third daughter of Lucy and Joseph Novak on a farm in Dovre Township, near Chetek, Wisconsin. She left home at the young age of 15, to start a life in Chicago, IL. She acted as a nanny and completed her education in the Chicago area. At age 21, while working for one of her clients, she was privileged to attend Franklin D. Roosevelt's inauguration, sitting only 7 rows behind the band. After completing training in the Chicago area, she started her lifelong career as a dental assistant. Esther followed four of her sisters to live in the Los Angeles, CA, area. She worked for several dentists in the area during her career of more than 50 years. She spent many of her retirement years in LA, coming to reside in Silvis at the age of 99. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline. Her favorite sport was swimming and she taught several of her nephews and a niece the finer strokes involved during her annual visits to the QC area. She was extremely proud of reaching the age of 100 and recently celebrated with her family surrounding her. Esther is survived by her brother-in-law, G. Douglas Norman, East Moline; nephew, William (Ellen) Norman; niece, Jo Ann (Douglas Madar) Norman, both of East Moline; nephews, Joseph Helferty, Los Angeles, CA, Don Helferty, Los Angeles, Robert Paige, Reseda, CA, Ronald Novak, Downers Grove, IL; many great nieces and nephews. Esther was preceded in death by both of her parents, sisters, Frances Norman, Helen(Merwyn) Smith, Stella (Leonard) Johnson, Alice (Joseph) Helferty, Mae (Robert) Paige, brother, Frank (Ruth) Novak, nephews, Wayne Novak, and Douglas I.
