Obituary

Funeral services for Ethelyn Verna Wessel, 98, of Silvis, IL, formerly of East Moline, IL, will be 11:00AM Saturday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Committal Services will be 12:30PM at Erie Cemetery . A luncheon will follow at the Erie Methodist Church, Erie. Mrs. Wessel died Thursday, September 23, 2010 at Illini Restorative Care Center, Silvis, IL. Memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, East Moline, Arrowhead Ranch, or Bethany for Children and Families. Ethelyn Miller was born June 23, 1912 in White, SD, the daughter of John D. and Nellie Richards Miller. The family moved to Erie, IL in the late 1920's, where Ethelyn graduated from Erie High School. She married Paul W. Stoudt September 1, 1929. She later married Ralph W. (Jim) Wessel June 20, 1953. He died in October 1995. Ethelyn was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, East Moline, where she had been an active member of the Grace Circle. In earlier years, she had been a member and volunteer of the Illini Hospital Auxiliary and a member of the Moline Viking Club. She had worked several years for the International Harvester Company. After retirement, she and her husband spent winters in their Lakeland, FL home. Ethelyn loved music and played the piano and organ. She entertained friends and neighbors on Saturday nights at the Community Center in their Lakeland neighborhood. Survivors include her daughter, Gloria (James) Coryn, Moline; son Jack (Penny) Stoudt, Morrison, IL; grandchildren, Debra (Jeff) Schuett, Lynn (Scott) Reeh, Michael (Becky) Foley, John Foley, Elizabeth (Paul) LaBello, Jennifer Stoudt, David (Heather) Stoudt; great-grandchildren, Lisa Turner, Jordan Reeh, Kelly Beck, Kate Payne, Eric Foley, Amy Foley, Brianna LaBello, Dominic LaBello, and Violet Stoudt; great-great-grandchildren, Rhiannon, Natalie, Trevor, Aidan, and Cameron; sister, Maxine Bennett; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, Velma Kellogg and Marian Schaeffer, infant brother, Floyd, son-in-law, Jack B. Foley, grandson, Mark S. Foley. The family wishes to thank all of the wonderful people from Christ United Methodist Church, especially Claire McKinzie, who so faithfully visited and prayed for Ethelyn. Also, the wonderful staff at Illini Restorative Care Center who, for six years took such great and loving care of Ethelyn, we thank you all.
