Evelyn E. Coussens, 98, of Silvis, IL, formerly of Rapids City, IL, died Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, IA. Funeral services will be 10AM Saturday at St. John's Church, Rapids City, IL. Visitation is 5-7 PM Friday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a Christian Wake service will be read at 4:30PM. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline, IL. The former Evelyn Smet was born on December 29, 1917, in Moline, IL, the daughter of Arthur and Cesarine (Van Dam) Smet. She attended Sacred Heart School in Moline, and graduated from Moline High School in 1936. She worked ten years in the office at Deere & Company, Mixed Car Warehouse, Moline, from 1936 to 1947. She was a homemaker and seamstress. She married Prudent Coussens on June 22, 1946 at Sacred Heart Church, Moline. Survivors include her husband, Prudent Coussens, Silvis, IL; daughter Rebecca Fitzgerald, Austin, TX, and daughter and son-in-law Regina and Paul Szabady, Minneapolis, MN; granddaughters, Dr. Brenna Fitzgerald DVM, Oakley CA, and Mary Szabady, Minneapolis; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and a sister. Special thanks to Genesis Hospice staff.
