Funeral services for Evelyn M. Goethals, 85, of Moline, IL, will be 10:00AM Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 412 10th Street Moline, IL. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island, IL. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00PM Thursday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., 1500 6th Street East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 3:30PM. Evelyn died Monday, April 25, 2011 at Rosewood Health Care Center, Moline, IL. Evelyn DeBoever was born March 21, 1926 in East Moline, IL, the daughter of Julius and Mary Lannoo DeBoever. Evelyn was the Homecoming Queen of St. Josephs High School Class of 1944. She married Camiel Goethals May 4, 1946. She and Camiel owned and operated First and Last Chance Tavern, Moline for 20 years and Camiel's Hilltop Tavern, Moline, for 17 years. Her quick wit and sense of humor will be long remembered. She and Camiel were often found at the Windmill Restaurant in East Moline. She completed her Licensed Practical Nurse certificate when her family was grown. She was well known for her beautiful needle work and outstanding cooking, but her life's work was as loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her parties were large and joyous. She enjoyed NFL football and high school/ college basketball tournaments. She was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic parish as well as a member of the Altar Rosary Society. Survivors include her children, James (Susan) Goethals, of Raleigh NC and Susan DeVolder, Moline, daughter-in-law Beverly Goethals, Geneseo, grandchildren; Jeffrey Goethals, Andrew Goethals, Michelle DeSmyter, Mary Megan Ambrogi, Mary Schneider, Michael Goethals, Kevin Goethals, Tom DeVolder, Kathleen Goethals, and Mark Goethals, and fifteen great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Camiel who died July 23, 2010, her son, Michael Goethals. She will be missed by all her friends and the staff at the Quad City Kidney Center, Moline.
