Obituary

Fern Vershaw, 87, Silvis, died Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at her home, surrounded by her family. As per her request, her body will be cremated and private inurnment will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Fern Fuller was born May 18, 1923 in Dayton, Corners, IL, the daughter of Arthur and Ella (Snodgrass) Fuller. She married Harry Vershaw on July 27, 1940 in Moline. He died in 1990. Fern drove a school bus for St. Anne School, the East Moline School District and for the Silvis School District and retired after 33 years. She and her husband enjoyed do it yourself projects, travel and camping. The two of them drove to and touched the ground in all the lower 48 states. In 1992 Fern along with her son Tom and daughter Ella and their families took a 9000 + mile round trip to Alaska. She had been a member of the former St. Mary's Church in East Moline since 1952 and served on the Altar Society and was recently a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis. Fern loved being a wife, mother and grandmother; looking back at her life she said "I have lived very good life". She had been a member of the Birthday Club for over 40 years. In earlier years she was a member of the PTA at Bowlesburg School and served as a den mother of Cub Scouts. Survivors include her children and spouses: Priscilla DeMoulin of Illinois City, IL, Tom and Micheline Vershaw, East Peoria, IL, Peter and Gwendolyn Vershaw, East Moline, Ella and William Sanderson, Monroe, WI, and Elizabeth and Richard Paxton, Hillsdale, IL daughters-in-law; Karen Vershaw, Hampton and Linda Vershaw, Colona, twenty grandchildren, numerous great and great-great grandchildren, brothers; Duke Tyler, Davenport and Ken Tyler, Texas. She is preceded in death by her husband Harry, sons Harry and Victor, sisters Nellie Eads-Simmons and Roena Ryan, brothers; Billy Fuller, Jack Fuller and Louis Tyler and son-in-law Wilbert DeMoulin.
