Obituary

Funeral services for Frances C. Durnell, 79, of East Moline, IL, will be 10:00 AM Wednesday at the St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline, IL. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo, IL. Visitation will be 4:30 - 8:00PM Tuesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL, where a rosary will be recited at 4:00PM. Mrs. Durnell died Saturday, May 20, 2006 at home. Memorials may be made the American Cancer Society. Frances C. Berg was born February 23, 1927 in Peoria, IL, the daughter of Alfred L. and Frances C. (Wickham) Berg. She married Merle Durnell, June 20, 1953 at St. Malachy's Catholic Church, Geneseo, IL. She had worked at Glenview Junior High School in East Moline for many years. Later she worked for the former Peterson Harned Von Maur, retiring from Von Maur, in 1992. She had belonged to the former East Moline Women's Club. Over the years she volunteered for many worthwhile charities. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Survivors include: her husband of 52 years, Merle Durnell of East Moline, IL; daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Dan Carter of East Moline, IL; sons and daughter-in-law, Herbert "Herb" and Julie Durnell of Colona, IL, Jay Durnell of East Moline, IL; grandchildren, Mark and Crystal Durnell, Amy Durnell; great grandchildren, Audri, Tyler and Gabriel; brother, James A. Berg of Geneseo, IL, special friends, Brenda Bohland, Janette Rieger, Estherjane Loehrl, and Opal Loveall. She is preceded in death by her parents.
