Obituary

Frances Jane Littlewood passed away peacefully on September 20, 2016 at Rosewood Care Center of Moline. She formerly lived in Moline, Illinois. Services will be Monday, 11:00am at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, IL. Frances was born on November 11, 1921 in Bureau County, Illinois, to Fay and Jane (Colburn) Humphrey. She is preceded in death by her infant sister, Edith; brothers, Alvin, Dale and Eldon Humphrey, her husband and daughter. She grew up on a farm east of Geneseo, IL, and attended a 1-room school house and Geneseo High School. She met the love of her life, Fred Littlewood, on a blind date and they were married on April 12, 1941 at the First Christian Church Parsonage in East Moline. They celebrated 52 ½ years of marriage and Fred died on February 5, 1994. Together they had two daughters; Carol, and Kay, who died in 1999. She was a very talented seamstress, sewing for her daughters and grandchildren. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, needle crafts and was an avid quilter making many beautiful quilts. Frances was a member of the First Christian Church, East Moline, Royal Neighbors of America, The Exchange Club of the Quad Cities, and past member of R.I. County Home Extension, East Moline Women's Club and King's Daughters. Frances is survived by daughter Carol (Ron) Murphy of Hampton, IL; grandchildren: Kelly DeVolder, Moline, Kimberly Haskins, East Moline, Patrick (Toby) Murphy, East Moline, Kristin Youngren, Buhl, MN, Jonathan Andreae, CA, and Melissa Smith, MO: 14 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren and sisters-in-law Alberta Honeyman, Rock Island, Lillian Kusy, Woodstock, IL, and Lora Humphrey, Silvis. She is also survived by several nephews and nieces. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church, East Moline and the Food Pantry at Christ United Methodist Church. The family would like to thank the staff at Rosewood for the loving care they gave to her for over six years and to Dr. Nancy Short for her care and love.
