Obituary

Frank J. Soliz, 89, Colona, went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 23, 2016 at his home. Funeral services are 10AM Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Colona. Burial is in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline, where MAVA will conduct Military Honors. Visitation is 3-8PM Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, with a rosary recited at the conclusion. Memorials may be made to St. Patrick's Church, Hero Street Monument Committee or QC Right to Life. Frank was born on August 21, 1927 in a boxcar in Silvis, the son of Augustine and Tomasa (Lopez) Soliz. He married Josephine Terronez on July 24, 1950 in Moline. She died on November 2, 2010. Frank had worked for the Rock Island Lines, and retired in the mid 1980's from the former International Harvester Works, East Moline. Frank started working for the Colona Fire Department in 1969, working himself up to assistant Chief and was a Trustee when he retired in 2014. Mr. Soliz was an active member at St. Patrick's Church and was fondly referred to as the door greeter. He was pivotal in the development and completion of Hero Street Monument, and had served as a trustee. Frank and Josie helped to bring TEC (Teens Encounter Christ) and Cursillo to the Quad Cities. He had served on the Colona School Board and had been a court translator for Henry County. Frank served in the US Navy during WWII and was past Commander of the VFW 8890 in East Moline. Mr. Soliz had been awarded Colona's Citizen of the Year in 1992. Survivors include his children, Marc (Alohna) Soliz, Jackson Hole, WY, Stephanie (Robert) Dowdal, Colona, Theodore Soliz, Davenport, Joey Soliz, Moline, Kevin Soliz, Colona, Sara (Charles) Cervantes, Silvis and Stella (Daniel) Holmes, Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren, Kathleen, Charles "CJ", Janell, Jaclyn, Sarah, Kelin, Nicole, David, Andrew, Brianna, Kelsy, Adam, Zackary, and Claire; great-grandchildren, Celia, Jillian, Jacob, Ava, Isabella, Charles III, Benjamin, Carmendi, Santana, and one on the way; siblings, Guadalupe "Sonny" Soliz, Anthony Soliz, Thomas Soliz, Edmond Soliz, Margaret Guajardo, Teresa Soliz and Isabel Soliz. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Mary McLaughlin, Margarito Soliz, Tanilo Soliz and Paul Soliz.
