Funeral services for Fred W. Avitt, 75, Geneseo, are 11 AM Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Visitation is 4-6PM Wednesday and 1 hour prior to services on Thursday at the funeral home. Fred died Saturday, December 11, 2010 at Genesis Medical Center-Illini Campus, Silvis. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, the American Lung Association or the the Kidney Foundation. He was born November 1, 1935 in Chariton, IA, the son of Harold R and Thelma L (Adcock) Avitt. He graduated from Moline High School in 1954. He married Margaret J. Harrelson on June 18, 1955 in Galesburg, IL. Fred had worked as a machinist at Williams-White and later retired from the former Montgomery Elevator. He enjoyed going to auctions, watching westerns and the discussion of politics. Survivors include his wife Margaret, children and spouses; Linda S and Steven Bridgeford, Rock Island, Michael D and Rosie Avitt, Aurora, IL, Doreen K and Lyle Talbot, Thorton, CO, and Kimberly A and Joe Duran, Silvis, six grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, a brother Danny E (Marlene) Avitt, Manteo, NC, and an uncle, William A (Mary) Adcock Jr., Newbern, TN.
