Fred Berry Jr., 71, of Hampton, passed away Monday December 28, 2020 surrounded by his family at home. A private family celebration of life will be held. Cremation has been accorded. Memorials may be made to the family. Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Fred was born October 1, 1949 in Rock Island, a son of Frederick J. Berry Sr. and Marilyn Nance. He graduated from Buena Park High School in California. He married Melody Randall on August 22, 1987 in Davenport. Fred worked as an Operating Engineer for Settles Construction in Bettendorf for 42 years until retiring in 2012. He was a member of International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 150 for 42 years. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, the Cubs, going to the races, casinos and working in the garage. He loved being with his family, especially the kids and grandkids.

Survivors include his wife, Melody, Hampton; 2 children: Fred Berry III, CA; and Michelle Berry, CA; 3 step-children: Rick Keller, Pleasant Valley, Jaime (Kevin) Atwood, East Moline, Chuck (Kristy) Keller, Milan; 11 grandchildren: Justin, Dallas, Austin, Carlyn, Stella, Tristyn, Ethan, Emma, Ashley, Anthony, and Julia; 3 great-grandchildren: Leila, Forrest and Theodore; brothers: Curt (Jackie) Berry, Moline; Mark (Linda) Berry; sister: Connie Berry, GA; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a grandson, Foster Atwood.
