Funeral services for Fred W. Schultz, 93, of Silvis, IL, will be 11 am Friday at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, IL. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Schultz passed away Sunday, July 23, 2023, at New Perspectives, Silvis.
Fred was born June 16, 1930, in East Moline, the son of Harry and Lunette Schulte Schultz. He married Shirley J. Williams April 2, 1952, in Silvis. She passed away July 29, 2020. He served in the US. Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked for the East Moline Herald and retired from Desauliers Printing Company after 40 years of service. He then worked part-time security at Illini Hospital, for 16 years. He was a member of the Graphic Communication Union 518, Catholic Order of Foresters, the American Legion Post 227, the East Moline VFW Post 2056, AMVET Post 145, and Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis. He served in many capacities over the years including: Past Commander AMVET Post 145, Past Commander VFW Post 2056, Commander American Legion Post 227 Honor Guard, Rock Island County Board District 3 for 18 years, Chairman AMVET 4th of July Parade & Fireworks for 20 years, Law Enforcement Mobile Team Training 4 Advisory Board for 12 years, Rock Island County Waste Management Advisory Board for 15 years, Silvis Civil Service Commission for 11 years, and Silvis Liquor Commission, for 9 years.
Survivors include his children; Teresa Nelson, Rock Island, Mark Schultz, East Moline, Brenda Christensen, East Moline, Steve (Deana) Schultz, North Richland Hills, TX and Gary (Beth) Schultz, Williamston, SC, eleven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren; sister, Laura (Tom) Viscioni, East Moline; sisters-in-law, Betty Schultz East Moline, and Gayle Schultz, Silvis; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Jeff Schultz; sons-in-law, David Nelson and David Christensen.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the East Moline American Legion Post 227 Honor Gaurd.
The family would like to thank the staff of New Perspectives and Genesis Hospice for their excellent care.
