Obituary

Garland "Gar" Edward Fieser, 85, East Moline, died Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at his home. Private family services will be held at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. He was born on August 10, 1923 in Russellville, Arkansas, the son of Edward and Rosa (Kerp) Fieser. Gar graduated from the University of Illinois in Urbana. He attended radar schools at Harvard and MIT. During WWII he spent three years in the Navy as a radar expert and as a navigator on the USS Ulysses, where he attained the rank of Lt. JG. On May 1, 1948 he married Shirley Robinson and moved to the Quad Cities. He was employed by Eagle Signal Co. of Moline, (later of Davenport) for 36 years. He was an inventor or co-inventor of nine patents and has been registered as a professional engineer in the state of Illinois since 1954. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law; Richard and Gemma Fieser, Moline, daughters and son-in-law; Sherry Fieser of Honolulu Hawaii, and Cindy and Michael Clancey of San Antonio, Texas, grandchildren and spouses; Nathan and Amy and Lindsey and Taylor, great grandchildren; Alura and Isaac and a brother Arnold Fieser of Bonita, CA. He is preceded in death by his wife Shirley and a daughter Janet.
