Gary R. Johnson, 86, Carbon Cliff, passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at his home. Visitation is from 10 AM until 11 AM Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Graveside services will follow at 11:30 AM Wednesday at the Rock Island National Cemetery, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct Military Honors. Memorials may be made to any animal shelter.

Gary was born on April 20, 1936 in Missoula, MT, the son of Arthur and Cleo (Phelps) Johnson. He married Marguerite Roby on July 17, 1975 in Rock Island. He retired from Augustana College, Rock Island. Gary served as an M.P. in the United States Army. Gary enjoyed hunting and fishing in his early years.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Marguerite, children; Michael Johnson, Arlington, IA, JoLana (Randy) Thein, Arlington, IA, Eric Johnson, Albany, IL, Charles (Danette) Johnson, Silvis, Tammy (Terry) Wallace, Milan, step son, James (Annette) Roby, Moline, ten grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, a great-great granddaughter, and a sister, Vivian Larsen, Waverly, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son Gary Johnson.
