Funeral services for Gary Lee "Gooey" Medenblik, 47, of Hampton, IL, will be 6:00 PM Thursday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 PM prior to services at the funeral home Thursday. Mr. Medenblik had a great love of life and fought hard to keep it. He died Monday, June 4, 2012 at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis, IL, after a 3 year battle with cancer. Memorials may be made to the Metropolitan Community Church, Davenport, IA. Gary was born September 23, 1964 in Clinton, IA, the son of Charles H. and Sally Ann Scudder Medenblik. He was a graduate of Fulton High School, Fulton, IL. He had worked at Julie's Cafe, Albany, IL and was currently employed at the IYC, Kewanee, IL. He was a member of Hearts for Housing. He loved Christmas, earning the nickname "Mr. Christmas." He loved baking and was an excellent cook. He enjoyed traveling, dining out, and the Chicago Cubs. Survivors include his life partner of 15 years, Scott Newberg, Hampton; brother, Gerald " Casey" Jones, Clinton, IA; niece and nephew, Harmony McAmis and Casey S. Jones, and their mother, Shauna He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, James. Special thanks to Genesis Virology Center, Genesis Wound Care, Dr. Stoffel, Dr. Porubcin & Staff, all the ladies on Hamilton 4th Floor at Peoria Methodist Medical Center, and an especially big thanks to Dr. Norm Estes who did what other doctors refused to do.
