Obituary

Gary C. Stoedter, 82, of Silvis, IL, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, September 5, 2026, with his loving wife, Judy, by his side.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 11, at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, IL, with visitation one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to Bible Holiness Church, East Moline.

Gary was born May 22, 1944, in Moline, Illinois, to Carl and Helen (Hansen) Stoedter. He married the love of his life, Judy A. Evans, on July 9, 1966, in Moline. Together, they shared 60 years of marriage.

Gary proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he began a long career as a machine operator with Case I.H., where he worked for more than 35 years before retiring in 2000. He was a member of U.A.W. Local 1304, East Moline, and the Moline Masonic Lodge.

Gary was an avid “collector,” enjoyed old cars, and was fondly known as a “jack of all trades” who could build or repair just about anything. He had a one-of-a-kind sense of humor, a quick wit, and absolutely no filter. He was an animal lover with a special place in his heart for all animals. Most of all, Gary treasured time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved following their sports and activities and was incredibly proud of them. Gary’s humor, unforgettable personality, and love for his family will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

Gary is survived by his wife, Judy, of Silvis; his children, Gary (Karla) Stoedter of Yorkville, IL, and Mindy (James) Wakefield of Silvis; his grandchildren, Courtney (Eric) Awalt, Alexandria (Dustin) Weeks, Autumn Stoedter, Devynn Wakefield, Jacob Stoedter, and Samantha Stoedter; his great-grandchildren, Adreanna, Wyatt, Owen, Zachery, Negan, and Scarlett; his sisters, June Hessell and Joyce (George) Gaddey, both of East Moline; and many nieces, nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Brian Stoedter; his parents, Carl and Helen Stoedter; and his siblings, Betty Findley, Jack Stoedter, Jean Lance, and Ralph Stoedter.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Heartland Hospice, especially Katrina, Megan and Brenda for the kindness, compassion, and care they provided to Gary and his family.
