Dr. Gary Wayne Whitcanack , 80, of Rock Island, IL, passed away Friday, November 14, 2025 at Allure of the Quad Cities, Moline.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 19th, at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, with visitation two hours prior to services Wednesday. Interment, with military honors presented by VVA Chapter 299, will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family in care of his wife, Myra.
Gary was born February 10, 1945, in Davenport, Iowa, to Wm. Glen and Orietta (Billiet) Whitcanack. He was a proud graduate from Rock Island Alleman High School. He continued his education at Black Hawk College and later Palmer College of Chiropractic. He was a US Navy veteran of the Vietnam War where he was a Corpsman at the Navy Hospital in Da Nang.
He had a long career as a Doctor of Chiropractic in Moline. He also was a Registered Respiratory Therapist, and professor at Black Hawk College for a time. Together with his wife, Myra, they did family and wedding photography.
Gary will be fondly remembered as a kind and caring person. He was always a positive influence to his patients, family, and friends, and helped all wherever he could. An avid and talented drummer for 65 years, he was very involved with local music and bands in the Quad Cities.
He is survived by his wife, Myra, of Rock Island; daughters, Tammie (Jim) Scott, East Moline and Marcie (Scott) Faulkner, Bettendorf; stepson, Rodger (Kelli) Robertson, Moline; stepdaughter, Jennifer Cook; stepson, Jared Cook; seven grandchildren; several great grandchildren; sisters, Judy (Danny) Gushanas, Rock Island, and Glenda Whitcanack, Milan; several nieces and nephews, and their families.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Orietta; and sister, Cathy Wakeland.
