Obituary

Funeral services for Gene L. Anderson, 86, of Moline, IL, will be 10:00AM Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, East Moline, IL. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island, IL. Visitation will be 3:00-7:00PM Tuesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline,IL. Mr. Anderson died Sunday, December 20, 2009 at Select Specialty Hospital, Davenport, IA. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, East Moline or Honor Flight of the Quad Cities. Gene was born April 29, 1923 in Pana, IL, the son of Vern E. and Goldie (Curry) Anderson. He graduated from Pana High school in 1940. He was a member of the National Honor Society. He married M. Jane Clarke on July 13, 1943. They had 5 children. Gene entered the U.S. Army during World War II and was an air cadet until transferred to the infantry after the invasion of Europe. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge as a result of his service in Europe. He crossed the Rhine under fire at St. Goar/St. Goarshausen, Germany in March 1945. As a result of his service he was able to visit Washington D.C. in 2008 with the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities. After returning home he and his family lived in Pana, Rock Falls, East Moline, and Moline, where he and his wife have resided for 60 years. He worked for Baker's Dairy, the Moline School District, and John Deere Harvester Works Experimental, Silvis, IL. Gene was very active in A.A. where he helped many others for 33 years. He and his wife were actively involved at First Presbyterian Church, East Moline for over sixty years. Gene is survived by his wife, Jane Anderson of Moline, sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Sylvia Anderson, Moline, Randy and Mary Beth Anderson of Park Ridge, IL,and Greg and Kim Anderson of Estes Park, CO; grandchildren, Tim, Teri, Gene III, Amy, Rick, Josh, Justin, Sarah, Mark, and Ryan; eight great grandchildren; sister, Roberta Maton of Tower Hill, IL; brother and sister-in-law, Ron and Nancy Anderson of Orlando, FL; daughter-in-law, Joan Anderson of Moline. He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Mary Lois, son, Gene Anderson Jr., brothers, Billy and Larry Anderson. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.vanhoe.com
