George (Corky) Christensen (1944 - 2013) Formerly of Hampton, IL, died Friday, August 16, 2013 at home after a 2 year long battle with cancer. Funeral services are 5:30PM Tuesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, with visitation from 2 PM until service time. The family asks that memorials be made to a local animal shelter. Corky attended St. Mary's Catholic school in East Moline and graduated from United Township HS in 1963 where he played many sports and excelled in baseball. He continued his love of the game, and played for numerous teams in the Quad City area. After baseball, he umpired with Ron Pustelnik for over 10 years. He was a diehard Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan. Favorite past times were fishing and spoiling his animals at home. Corky served his apprenticeship and worked as a tool and die maker at East Moline Metal Products for 17 years. Finishing his career and retiring from the RI Arsenal in 2005. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Gale, son, Doug, daughter, Jenell (Johnny) Morales, granddaughter Ashley, grandson Jonathan, nieces Tara (Kevin) Scheff, their children, Tyler, Kaitlyn, Kassidy, Carin (Justin)Stroup, their daughter, Rozlynn, and numerous nephews, and special family friend David Paris who were all there during our time of need. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 1 sister and a nephew.
