George E Frye, 87, Colona, died Monday, December 26, 2011 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice, Bettendorf. Funeral services are 2PM Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 1 hour prior to services. A memorial fund has been established. George was born March 23, 1924 in Des Moines, IA, the son of Christopher and Martha (Englehart) Frye. He received a Purple Heart while serving in the US Army during WWII. He married Ruth Rind on August 11, 1949 in East Moline. George retired in 1981 from the former International Harvester, East Moline. George was a member of the Colona American Legion and the VFW. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. George loved his wife very much, and lived his life for her. Survivors include his wife Ruth, children and their significant others, Sharon Clapp and Bill DeCastecker, East Moline, Christopher Frye and Rose, East Moline, and Cindy Frye and Tom Fussell, Sherrard, grandchildren, Andrea Bolduc, Lisa Sides and Taylor Frye, a great grandson Brenden, and sisters Maxine Waldorf and Darlene Ericksen, Des Moines.
