Obituary

Funeral services for George R. Lawton, 82, of Walcott, IA, formerly of Davenport, IA, will be 11:00AM Monday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation will be 2 hours prior to services at the funeral home on Monday. Mr. Lawton died Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Genesis Medical Center, West Central Park, Davenport. Memorials may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church, Walcott, Walcott Lions Club, or the Durant Volunteer Ambulance Service. George was born November 15, 1930 in Davenport, the son of George C. and Ethel Bullis Lawton. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Margaret Kay Sodeman January 16, 1955 in Davenport. He retired from Oscar Mayer, Davenport, in 1993 after 22 years of service. He had been a member of the Walcott Lions Club and a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge. His life revolved around his family. He loved attending his grandchildren's sporting events. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Kay Lawton, Walcott; daughter, Leslie Dennison, Sherrard, IL; sons, George D. Lawton, Davenport and Steven E. (Starla) Lawton, East Moline; grandchildren, Brian (Tonya) Dennison, Todd (Shaunna) Dennison, Douglas (Renee) Dennison, Ashley (Ben) Erwin, Meghan Lawton (Cade Morgan), and Steven M. Lawton; great grandchildren, William, Alicia, Todd Jr., Cai, Austin, Blair, and a great-grandson (Elliott) due in June; brother, Dean (Linda) Lawton, Davenport.
