George M. "Mike" Collins, 70, of Ankeny, Iowa, formerly of the Quad Cities, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2024 at UnityPoint- Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines, IA.

Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 31, at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. Burial will be at a later date at Aledo Cemetery, Aledo, IL. Memorial visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, May 30th, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to BACA (Bikers Against Child Abuse) Iowa Chapter 1, Des Moines, IA.

Mike was born November 16, 1953, in Moline, Illinois, a son of George, Jr. and Margaret (Verslype) Collins. He graduated from UTHS, Class of 1971, and then from Morrison Institute of Technology. He married Wendy L. England on November 17, 1973 in East Moline, IL.

He was a Civil Engineer for East Moline, and later Director of Public Works for Aledo, IL. Following his retirement, he worked for Missman and J & M.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He especially enjoyed fishing and gardening with his grandchildren. Some of his favorite times were spent camping, enjoying the outdoors, and making memories with friends and family. Mike was a talented woodworker, and spent many years making improvements to his home, "The Shack", in Aledo. In earlier years, he enjoyed coaching softball and baseball.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Wendy, of Ankeny; sons, Chad (Marcy) Collins, Davenport, IA, and Todd (Lisa) Collins, Bettendorf, IA; daughter, Amanda Collins, and fiancé' Randy Wilson, Ankeny, IA; grandchildren, KarteeJo Collins and Dani and Payton Messman; great grandchildren, Madie and Ezra Elliott; mother, Margaret Collins, East Moline; and siblings, Randy (Debbie) Collins, Arizona and Debi (Pat) Laleman, East Moline.

Mike was preceded in death by his father.
