George M. Polios, 75, a life-long resident of East Moline, died of natural causes at his home on Tuesday, March 31, 2015. Funeral services are 11 AM Friday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Moline Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is 4-7 PM Thursday (Today) April 2, 2015 at the funeral home with a Trisagion Prayer Service at 6PM. Additional visitation will be from 10 AM until service time on Friday. Memorials may be made to Bethany for Children and Families, Moline or to Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, East Moline. George was born in Moline, on April 16, 1939, the son of Michael S. and Veneta Takantjas Polios. He graduated from United Township High School in 1957 and attended Michigan State University. He had served in the US Army Reserves. In 1959 he became manager of Tri-City Food Store, East Moline, and later went to work in sales for Hacker Oldsmobile Cadillac. George continued to work at McLaughlin's until his death. He was a member of Assumption Greek Orthodox Church and the East Moline Rotary Club. He enjoyed playing golf, working crossword puzzles and became a Dodgers fan when they were in Brooklyn. He dearly loved his grandchildren. He is survived by two daughters, Michelle Schmitt, Chesterfield, MO; and Stephanie (Steve) Plourde, Woodstock, IL; four grandchildren, Taylor (Rick) Fry, Jordan Schmitt, Ryan Plourde and Eleni Schmitt; a great granddaughter, Edythe Fry. Other survivors include nephews, George Bloomquist and Jason Polios; nieces, Grace Bloomquist and Julie Polios; great nephew, Michael Bloomquist; sister-in-law Barbara Polios; and former wife, Nancy. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Spero M.; sisters, Florence Bloomquist and Anastasia Kimionis; and nephews Michael Bloomquist and Michael Polios.
