?George W. Smith, 84, East Moline, died Saturday, October 8, 2011 at Trinity Bettendorf. Services are 11 AM Tuesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Visitation is from 9AM until service time. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, where the Orion American Legion will conduct Military Honors. Memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, East Moline, where he was a member. George was born February 22, 1927 in Moline, the son of William and Minnie (Aswedge) Smith. He married Edna Brummet on July 20, 1946 in San Diego, CA. He retired in 1985 as a machine repairman from John Deere Plow Planter, Moline. He served in the Merchant Marines and was a WWII Naval Veteran, and was a member of the Orion American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and playing cards. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Edna, sons George D. Smith, East Moline, Jerald Smith, Geneseo and Allen Smith, East Moline, nine grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
