Funeral services for George R. Van Thorre, 86, of East Moline, IL, will be 2 pm Friday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial will be in Sharon Cemetery, Erie, IL. Visitation will be 4-6 pm Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Van Thorre passed away Monday, June 6, 2022, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, IA.

George was born October 10, 1935, in East Moline, the son of Maurice and Florence (Teerlink) Van Thorre. He married Shirley Claeys. He later married Millie A. Young. He retired from the former John Deere Foundry, East Moline, at its closing. George was an avid bicyclist and car enthusiast. In his earlier years George loved to race go-carts.

Survivors include his wife, Millie Van Thorre, East Moline; daughters, Deborah (David) Neighbours, Moline, Lisa (Paul) Walter, Taylor Ridge, IL; step children, Barry (Rose) Wallace, Port Byron, IL, and Angie (David) Nichols, Rapids City, IL; 9 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and brother, Roger (Jimmie) Van Thorre, Fort Collins, CO.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Irene (Roger) DeLange, Paul (Mae) Van Thorre, and Evelyn (Jack) King.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.
