Funeral services for Gerrit Vande Geest, 84, East Moline, are 10 AM Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4-7PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Vande Geest died Sunday, June 17, 2007. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Gerrit was born September 9, 1922, in Galesburg, IA. He married Ruth Shafer on November 2, 1946 in Oskaloosa. He was a self employed plumber and excavator. He served in the US Navy during WWII. Gerrit enjoyed bowling and gardening. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law Virginia and Charlie Dilts, Ridge Manor, FL, Mary and Chuck Hopwood, Milan, IL, and Laura Burke, Wichita, KS, a son and daughter-in-law Bob and Margaret Vande Geest, Allen Park, Michigan, ten grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and a brother Ira Vande Geest, Moline and a sister Wilma Gosselink, Denver CO. His wife of 60 years Ruth died June 2, 2007 and their son Gerrit "Bill" VandeGeest preceded him in death
