Graveside services for Gerry Loerzel, 73, of Heber Springs, AR, formerly of the Quad Cities, will be 9 am Monday at the Rock Island National Cemetery, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct military honors. Anyone wishing to attend should be at the VanHoe Funeral Home by 8:30 am. Visitation will be 2-5 pm Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Loerzel passed away Monday, January 17, 2022, at his home.

Gerry was born October 20, 1948, in Iowa City, IA, the son of George James and Rose Mary (Grogan) Loerzel. He graduated from Assumption High School, Davenport, IA. He served in the US Army from 1967-69, the National Guard from 1972-82, and the Reserves until 1995. He married Trudy (Claeys) Bumann May 25, 1988, in Las Vegas, NV. He retired from the Rock Island Arsenal in 2004, after 33 years of service. He coached Little League from 1974-77 and Moline Sr Little League from 1991-95. He enjoyed fishing and bowling and had been a member of the Davenport Bowling Association.

Survivors include his wife, Trudy; children, James Loerzel, Davenport, Jenny (Marcel) Fontaine, Chicago, IL, Jerod (Diane) Loerzel Buda, IL, and Jacqueline Kelly, FL; 4 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; siblings, George James Loerzel III, Eldon, IA, Pat Loerzel, Ash Flat, AR, Mary Ann Kabel, Davenport, Dennis Loerzel, Davenport, Phillip Loerzel, Davenport, and Laurie Kolar, Rock Springs, WY.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Edward Loerzel.

Memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation or Humane Society Cleburne County, Heber Springs, AR.
