Gilbert J. "Barney" Barrett, 92, Moline, passed away on Friday, December 18, 2015 at his home. Funeral services are 10 AM Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Visitation is 4-7PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct military honors. Memorials may be made to the family. Gil was born on December 6, 1923 in St. Louis, MO, the son of Nathan and Dorothy (Morey) Barrett. He served in the US Army during WWII. He married Sandra Shallberg on May 9, 1970 in Galesburg. Barney will be most remembered for his service to the Erie Illinois Police Department. He enjoyed bowling and was a St. Louis Cardinal Fan, and a Chicago Bears Fan. He loved his family, especially the grandkids. Survivors include his wife, Sandra, children; Renee (Pat) Ewen, Davenport, Bryan Barrett, Moline and Joyelle Barrett, Davenport, seven grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
