Obituary

Gilbert E. Breckling, 81, Silvis, passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at his home. Funeral services are 10 AM Thursday at Calvary Church of the Quad Cities, Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4-8 PM Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Memorials may be made to the Quad City Area Special Olympics. Gil was born on October 19, 1934 in Davenport, IA, the son of Walter and Marie (Cappaert) Breckling. He graduated from UTHS, class of 1952. Gilbert was stationed in Korea, while serving in the US Army. He married Roberta Smith on December 7, 1968 in East Moline. He was a journeyman electrician, working throughout the Quad Cities including John Deere Foundry. Gil was a member of Calvary Church and their Healing Team. He was active with the the Rock Island County fair and was always there to help those in need. He was an avid fisherman, had a great sense of humor and loved his family dearly. He truly had a heart of gold. Survivors include his wife Roberta, children; Robert Breckling, Scott Breckling, both of Janesville, WI, Marty (Laurie) Breckling, Clinton Township, MI, Teri (Bill) Kaufman, Moline, Shari (Patrick) Gall, Rapids City, IL and Traci (Rick) Connor, Port Byron, IL, nineteen grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and a brother Philip (Mary) Breckling, Crosby, TX He was preceded in death by his parents and children, Christopher Breckling and Kari Copeland, and brothers; Robert, Ronald and Steve. He was known as "Honest Gil" to everyone who knew him.
