Gilbert B. Kuehl, 83, of Silvis, IL, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at MercyOne, Genesis, Silvis, IL.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 23rd, at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, IL. Interment, with military honors, will follow services. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 22nd, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Rock Island County Animal Shelter.
Gilbert was born November 26, 1942, in Moline, Illinois, to Robert and Nellie (Orloff) Kuehl. He graduated from Moline High School, Class of 1960. Gilbert and Dorothy A. Sainer were united in marriage on October 9, 1965, at St. Mary Catholic Church, East Moline.
Gilbert served with the Army National Reserves, Muscatine, from 1964 – 1970. He was employed for 32 years with International Harvester/ Case I.H.
Gilbert was an avid collector. He enjoyed raising tropical fish, horse racing at the QC Downs, visiting the casinos, and fishing.
Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Dorothy, of Silvis; son, Craig (Libby) Kuehl, Mt. Pleasant, IA; daughter, Kristen Kuehl, Silvis; grandchildren, Jessica (Blake) Schoenewe, Tori (Mitchell) Choquette, and Mason McGuire; great grandchildren, Delia and Anistyn; and “Grand-Paws” Boiler, Twixy, Chesney, and Ozzie; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rosemary and Gary Reynolds, Silvis; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Donna Sainer, Rapids City; and numerous nieces, nephews, and their families.
Gilbert is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Nellie; half-sister, Joni Rosen; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Newton and Lillian Sainer; and his beloved pet cat, “Sammy”.
