Funeral services for Gladys L. Gauker, 93, Colona, are 10:30 AM Wednesday at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Coal Valley. Visitation is 5-8PM Tuesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a Christian Wake service will be read at 4:30PM. Additional services will be at 11 AM Friday July 15, 2011 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Elcho, WI, with a visitation 1 hour prior to service. Burial is in Elcho Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Gladys died Saturday, July 9, 2011 at Trinity Rock Island. Gladys Monnot was born November 12, 1917 in Lily WI, the daughter of Edward and Stella (Getchell) Monnot. She married Russell Gauker on July 22, 1939 in Le Claire, IA. He died September 7, 1983. She was a fantastic cook who loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Gladys enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, playing solitaire and writing poetry. Survivors include her children and spouses: Patricia (Jason) Meirhaeghe-Smith, Penrose, CO, Russell (Lois) Gauker, Illinois City, IL, and Sandra (David) Bledsoe, Coal Valley, IL, twelve grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and siblings; Melda Blink, Rock Island, Beulah Molle, California,, Sybil (Jerry) Drabek, Lily, WI, Shirley Ingram, Hollister, WI, and Gary (Elaine) Monnot, Pierson, WI. She is preceded in death by her husband, infant daughter Mary, granddaughter Tina, and siblings; Jack, Gordon, Tiger, Barbara, Buster, David and infant twin sisters.
