Gloria L. Schmitt, 77, of Rock Island, formerly of Davenport died surrounded by her devoted husband and family on Thursday, September 27,2007, at Illini Restorative Care Center, Silvis. Visitation will be held from 2-5 PM Sunday at Van Hoe Funeral Home in East Moline. As per her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and a private graveside service will be held. Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery in Moline, IL. Memorials may be made to the family; they will be establishing a memorial garden in the courtyard she enjoyed at Illini Restorative Care Center. Gloria L. Ott was born March 3, 1930 in Moline, IL, the daughter of Rudy and Violet Ott. Gloria was a graduate of Moline High School's class of 1950. In September of 1950, she met the love of her life, Don Schmitt, at a dance at the Col Ballroom in Davenport, Iowa. They were married 6 weeks later on October 28, 1950. Gloria and Don were a true love story that was admired by all that knew them, through all 57 years that they had together. Gloria spent most of her years doing what she loved best, caring for her family. She enjoyed her children and grandchildren and loved the family times they had together. Those left to honor her memory include: her husband, Donald; her daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Dan DeMarlie, Geneseo, IL; sons and daughters-in-laws, Joel and Jeanine Schmitt, Bellingham, Washington, Paul and Christine Schmitt, Waterloo, IA; her grandchildren, Colin and Cara DeMarlie, Jeremy, Amber, Heather and Adam Schmitt; her sisters, Shirley and Linda; and her brother Brian.
