Guadalupe Olvera Sr., 83, East Moline, passed away at home, with his family at his side, on Friday, August 31, 2012. Funeral services are 10 AM Wednesday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4-8PM Tuesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 5PM. Memorials may be made to St. Anne Parish. Guadalupe was born May 25, 1929 in Roscoe, TX, the son of Ponciano and Francisca (Sifuentes) Olvera. He married Vahalia M Vasquez on June 18, 1949 in Muscatine, IA. He worked as an assembler and later retired as a spot welder in 1986 from John Deere Harvester, East Moline. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, working in his garden and listening to Mexican music. Mr. Olvera was a Chicago Cubs fan and jack of all trades. Lupe loved to travel. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Vahalia, children and spouses, John and Mary Ann Olvera, Jerry and Mona Olvera, Guadalupe and Daphne Olvera Jr., Benjamin and Cathy Olvera, Carlos Olvera and Felix Olvera all of the Quad Cities and Janet and Ron Anderson, of Tennessee and Francisca Olvera of San Antonio, TX, twenty grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, a great great granddaughter and sisters Isabel Reyes, Carmen Johnson, and Maria Diaz. He is preceded in death by his father Ponciano in 1994, his mother Francisca in 1979, son Michael A. in 1984, sister Clara Gonzalez, and brothers Ramon, Dale and Benjamin. The family would like to acknowledge the care and compassion shown by Dr. Stuart Garneau and his staff, Trinity Hospice, Fr. Greg Jozefiak of St. Anne, Fr. Tom Gibson of Sacred Heart, Moline and especially Lupe's granddaughter Victoria Olvera.
