Obituary

Funeral services for Gus J. Angelos, 77, East Moline, are 10:30 AM Friday at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Rock Island. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, with military honors. Visitation is 5-8 PM Thursday at St. George Church with a Trisagion (Prayer) Service at 7PM. Memorials may be made to St. George Church, In-touch Adult Day-care or Pathway Hospice. Gus died Tuesday, August 16, 2005 in East Moline. He was born January 29, 1928 in East Moline, the son of John and Katherine (Galanos) Anggeloplos. Gus served in the US Army during WWII. He married Marlowe Wagner, March 24, 1961 in Moline. Gus was a Quad-City area Restaurateur and had worked in sales before becoming Staff Assistant for the State Treasurer of Illinois. He was very active in the Rock Island County Democratic Party and served 18 years on the County Board. He was a member of the Masons. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Marlowe, daughters Kathy Quillin, East Moline and Christine (Mrs. Steve) Stombaugh, Moline, son John Angelos, East Moline, grandchildren Nicholas Angelos, Alexa, Brady, and Carson Stombaugh, Kaylla McKay and Jeremiah and Tony Quillin, five great-grandchildren and a sister Helen Spurgetis, East Moline. He is preceded in death by a sister Grace Vretis and brothers Frank, James and Nick.
