Obituary

Funeral services for Harold Heiland, East Moline, are 11 AM Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, East Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct Military Honors. Visitation is 3-7 PM Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Mr. Heiland died Monday, October 10, 2005 at his home. Memorials may be made to the QC Animal Welfare, Milan or to St. John's Lutheran Church, where he was a member. He was born June 15, 1925 in Muscatine, IA, the son of Charles and Lena (Wiggers) Heiland. Harold played on the Moline High School Varsity Basketball team that took 2nd in state in 1942-1943 season. He married Helen Humphrey, February 24, 1951 at St. John's Lutheran, East Moline. Harold retired in 1991 as plant superintendent and part owner of Johnson Contracting, East Moline after 40 years. He was a member of the AMVETS, East Moline American Legion Post 227, the VFW, the Moline Viking Club, the East End Boulders Club and the Sheet Metal Local 91. Harold was an avid gardener, enjoyed boating and belonged to the M-Men's Club. He served in the US Navy during WWII. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Helen, son and daughter-in-law Larry and Kris Heiland, East Moline, a granddaughter Amy Heiland, and sisters Mabel Seltzer, Paradise, CA, Charlene Shepard, Silvis, and his second son Dave Hanson, his wife Sheryl and their children Taryn and Danny.
