Memorial services for Harold E. Kendall, 88, of East Moline, IL, will be 10:30AM Friday at Christ United Methodist Church, East Moline. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Park Cemetery, East Moline. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 Thursday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a time of sharing will begin at 6:30. Mr. Kendall died Saturday, August 31, 2013 at his home. Memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, where he had been an active member. Harold was born April 20 1925 in Henry County, IL, the son of Harry and Myrtle Pickens Kendall. He served in the U.S. Army from July 21, 1943 through January 12, 1946, where he had fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He married Arlene Johnson September 25, 1949 in Aledo, IL. She died April 11, 2005. He later married Sally (Gibson) Exbom May 21, 2006 at Christ United Methodist Church, East Moline. He retired from the US Army Corps of Engineers in 1980 after 30 years of service. Harold had been a volunteer for Trinity Pathway Hospice. He recently had been selected to participate in the Honor Flight Network. Survivors include his wife, Sally Kendall, East Moline; son, Paul (Lynne) Kendall, East Moline; daughter, Karen (Jamie) Slater, Largo, FL; grandchildren, Jenifer (Matthew) McGowan, Bryan (Lisa) Kendall, Katrina (Nick) Plose , Christopher (Julie) Kendall, and James Slater; great grandchildren, Zachary, Katelyn, Brynn, Tess, Ethan, Aiden, Izabella, and one on the way; stepchildren, Kathy Rick, Mark Hoopes, Janet Hoopes, Lori Hurlburt, Danny Exbom, Kathy Shearer, Richard Exbom, Kandy Allison, and Randy Exbom; many step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 56 years, Arlene, brother, Howard Kendall, and stepson, Robert Exbom.
