Obituary

Harold David Reuter, 72, East Moline, IL, died Sunday, December 11, 2011 at Genesis Medical Center-Illini Campus, Silvis, under hospice care. Per Harold's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial visitation will be held from 4-7 PM Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. A service will be held at the conclusion of visitation. A memorial fund has been established. Harold was born May 24, 1939 in Hospers, IA, the youngest of eight children born to Leo and Johanna (Stapenhorst) Reuter. He married Patricia Ashton on November 25, 1967 in Beaman, IA. He graduated from Hospers High School in 1957. He served in the US Navy, stationed in San Diego on the USS Yorktown. He attended Westmar College in LeMars, IA and graduated from Iowa State University in Ames, IA, with an Electrical Engineering degree. He worked at IBM, Moline as a system engineer, working on the John Deere Account. He retired in the mid 1990's. Harold enjoyed bowling, golfing, and bicycling. He rode in 9 of the Iowa RAGBRAIs, and was an active member of the Quad City Bike Club. He loved traveling in the US as well as abroad. Harold is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jacquelyn "Jackie" and Jim Leonard, Bettendorf, grandchildren Matthew and Hope Leonard, former wife and caregiver Pat Reuter, East Moline; brothers, Jerome (Barb) Reuter, Hospers, Robert (Nancy) Reuter, Cherokee, IA; sisters, Rosella Reuter, LeMars, JoAnn Treinan, Fremont, NE, Viola (Don) Zenk, Alton, IA and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Arlene Lamphere and Alice Holles. Inurnment services will be at a later date at St. Anthony's Cemetery, Hopers.
