Harold D. "Deke" Smith, 70, of East Moline, IL, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2022, at his home. A memorial visitation will be held Thursday from 4-7 pm at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline.

Deke was born May 31, 1951, in Moline, IL, the son of Harold and Lila (Diess) Smith. He was a graduate of Western University, Macomb, IL, where he received a degree in Engineering. He married Marcia Felkner October 16, 1976, at Christ United Methodist Church, East Moline, where they were members. Marcia passed away November 29, 2012. Deke retired from John Deere Seeding Group, Moline in 2012, after 36 years of service.  He was a UAW Member at Local 434 and had served as a Committeeman. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting, and basketball. He loved traveling with his wife.

Survivors include his sons, Patrick Smith (Carla Echevarria) New York, NY, and Adam Smith, Wilmington, NC; granddaughter Aya; siblings, Joanne (William) Humphrey, Moline, and Michael (Sunnie) Smith, East Moline; nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; and siblings, Howard, Frank, John, Edith, Dorothy, and Alice.

Memorials may be made to the American Humane Society.
