Obituary

A memorial visitation for Dr. Harry Arvanis, 80, of East Moline, IL, will be 1-4pm Sunday January 21, 2024 at the VanHoe Funeral Home, East Moline. Private committal services for family will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens. Dr. Arvanis passed away Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Unity Point Health, Bettendorf, IA.

Harry was born June 28, 1943 in Moline, IL. He married Linda (Campbell) Schneider on July 2, 1985 in Las Vegas, NV.

The UTHS Wrestling Hall of Fame ceremony will take place on January 26, 2024 and Harry as Head Wrestling Coach and the 1983-84 team will be inducted. He coached wrestling for many years and also coached football.

Teaching was Harry's passion and taught at UTHS for 37 years. He was a worldwide mentor to teachers online. Harry was a current UTHS Board Member up until his passing, an East Moline Park Board member in prior years and received a Public Service Award. He was the Manager of the Northeast baseball parks; to include girls softball. Through his teaching, coaching and community service career, his impact on the East Moline community was extensive.

Harry graduated from Augustana College in 1965. He went on to complete his Doctoral degree in Education and published a book on mathematics, which was his thesis.

Harry enjoyed keeping active playing baseball, racquetball, pickleball, and enjoyed working on his farm after retirement; he was an avid follower of sports to include the NCAA wrestling, Cubs and Bears teams.

Harry is preceded in death by Harry V. and Alfreda A. Wendell Arvanis (parents) and Sandy (Don) Meeves (sister).

Harry is survived by his wife; children: Scott (Debbie) Schneider, Austin, TX; Jodi (Mark) Woodruff, McKinney, TX; Brian (Veronica) Schneider, Chicago, IL; Todd (Amy) Arvanis, Des Moines, IA; and twinsTraci (Chuck) Fox, Silvis, IL and sister Tina. Harry and Linda have 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Brother: Sam (Ginny) Arvanis, Romeoville, IL; and one surviving brother and family.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, a monetary memorial may be made to the family. The family will donate to various charities/organizations.
