Funeral services for Harvey L. Scharer, 80, of East Moline, IL, will be 11:00 am Thursday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation will be from 9am until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Scharer died Thursday, September 1, 2016, at Trinity Rock Island. Harvey was born June 16, 1936, in Moline, IL, the son of Max and Adeline Popp Scharer. He attended Rock High School. In his early years, Harvey worked for Rock Island Steel. Later he worked as a line-man for Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric. He then worked for the Chicago, Rock Island, and Pacific Railroad. He retired from National Railway, Silvis, IL. Harvey was a very kind man who loved photography and was very good at it. His greatest pleasure was time spent with his grandchildren. He was loved by everyone that knew him. Survivors include his sons, Robert Scharer, Iowa City, IA, Paul Scharer, Miami, FL, Christopher Scharer, West Des Moines, IA, and David (Jodi) Scharer, Le Claire, IA; grandchildren, Adam, Madison, Kayden, Troy, Noah, and Addison; siblings, Marlin Scharer, Rock Island, Russell Scharer, New Windsor, IL, Ronald (Jodi) Scharer, Fulton, IL, Judy Turner, Joliet, IL, and Susan (Ed) Johnson, Rock Island; and many friends.
