Hazel VerHeecke Funeral services for Hazel VerHeecke, 88, of Moline, IL, formerly of East Moline, will be 10:00AM Wednesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. VerHeecke died Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Clarissa Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, IA. Hazel DeKoster was born January 25,1925 in Manlius, Illinois, the daughter of Emiel and Leshia Greenwood DeKoster. She first married Edward L. Flinn on August 9,1942. He was reported missing in action April 11,1944, and was presumed dead. She married Camiel A. VerHeecke on January 5,1946. He died June 17,1976. She enjoyed gardening, fishing and quilting, making many quilts for her children and grandchildren. She liked playing cards weekly with her friends and watching the Cubs games on TV. She loved spending time with her family especially her 11 great-grandchildren. She was always there to support her family and shared in as many special occasions as possible. She was a great caregiver when a family member required special attention and gave countless hours of comfort to her brothers and sisters and husband Camiel, during their time of need. Hazel found great joy in sharing her many talents with her family. She was an excellent cook and loved preparing their favorite dishes. She was an inspiration to her family and friends. Hazel was employed as a tool grinder at John Deere Harvester, East Moline, retiring May 31,1986, after 17 years. Prior to working at John Deere, she was employed at lllini Hospital in Silvis. Survivors include her children and their spouses, Larry and Therese VerHeecke, Port Byron, Gary and Deb VanDeWoestyne, Lynn Center and Randy and Penny Woods, East Moline; 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son and her husband's Edward and Camiel; sisters Anna Marie Flinn, Florence DeKoster, and Katherine DeKoster; brothers Arthur, Charles, Corbin and Joseph DeKoster. Memorials will be donated by the family to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House for the wonderful care they gave Hazel during her battle with cancer.
