Funeral services for Hector Poelvoorde Jr., 89, East Moline, IL. will be 1:00 pm Monday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis, IL. Services will be live streamed at https://www.facebook.com/VanHoeFuneralHome/.

Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens.

Visitation is 2-5 pm Sunday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 1 pm. Anyone wishing to attend must wear face coverings and respect social distancing. Hector died Sunday, April 4, 2021, in Edina, MN.

Hector was born October 4, 1931, in Moline, IL, the son of Hector Sr. and Bernice (Granet) Poelvoorde. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He married Joan Malmstrom, May 14, 1955, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Moline.

Hector worked at Johnson's Sheet Metal and Schebler Company as a journeyman and spent his retirement years working at the Taxslayer Center as well as a school crossing guard for the East Moline school district #37. He enjoyed life when he was surrounded by people and loved sitting outdoors in the warm sun. He spent time in his vegetable garden in the summer and spent countless hours with his family on camping trips. He also served as a Eucharistic minister for his church, enjoyed time as a Chicago Cubs fan and had a passion for crossword puzzles and sweets!

Survivors include his wife Joan, of 65 years; daughters, Robyn (Jim) Seals, East Moline, Chris Ward, Silvis, IL, Michelle (Dean) Springer, Geneseo, IL, Annette Poelvoorde (Jamie Roudabush), Bloomington, MN, and Kelly (Bill) LaFerrara, East Moline; 17 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Kayla Jackson; siblings, George Poelvoorde, Joyce Kunst, and Pat Nicewanner.
