Funeral services for Helen V. Bear, 78, Moline, are 9 AM Wednesday at Elim Covenant Church, Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4-7PM Tuesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Memorials may be made to Elim Church or to Alzheimer's Research. Mrs. Bear died Saturday, April 11, 2009 at Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley. Helen Irelan was born June 12, 1930 in Lemons, MO, the daughter of Hemerly and Flora (Toney) Irelan. She married Glenn L. Bear Sr. on April 3, 1948 in Kirksville, MO. He died January 28, 2007. Helen had worked as a crossing guard for the City of Moline for 26 years. For over 30 years, Helen was very active in the Sunday School Program at Elim. She taught the preschool class where she loved reading bible stories and playing her guitar and singing hymns with the children. Helen enjoyed painting and going for walks. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law: Glenn J. and Cathy Bear, Colona, Ron Bear, Davenport, and Martin and Cheryl Bear, Sherrard, grandchildren; Dennis, Steven and Meagan, 6 great grandchildren, a brother and sister-in-law Darrell and Patricia Irelan of Redlands, CA and a sister-and brother-in-law Juna and Clark Wortz of Trenton, MO.
