Lu Campagna Helen Lucile Welling Campagna, 93 of Park Vista Retirement Community, East Moline, died Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at her home. Funeral services are 10 AM Tuesday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial is in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Visitation is 4-7PM Monday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 4PM. Memorials may be made to the Monsignor William J. Cleary Endowment Fund, Easter Seals or E.K.F. Lu was born July 14, 1919 in East Moline, the daughter of John P. and Amanda Bloom Welling. She married Tom J. Campagna at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline on March 31, 1951. Tom died on October 31, 1997. She was the first office secretary of the East Moline-Silvis Association of Commerce, now known as the Illinois Quad-City Chamber of Commerce. She worked there for 35 years. After leaving the Chamber, She worked for several years at Glockhoff & Haytcher in East Moline. Lu was past president of the East Moline Junior Woman's Club, Past President of the East Moline City Club and member of the East Moline Woman's Club until it disbanded. Mrs. Campagna had also been a member of the Illini Hospital Auxiliary. She is a special Honorary Member of Short Hills Country Club. Her husband Tom was the General Manager of Short Hills for 40 years. Lu was a lifetime member of St. Anne Catholic Church. In her earlier years, she was a very active member. Her father was a charter member. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Cheryl Kay and Steve Beale, Aledo, granddaughter Amanda "Amy" (Tom) Johnson, great grandchildren, Collin Thomas Johnson and Violet Joy Johnson, nieces and nephews, John J. (Michele) Welling, Lynn M. Downey, James A. (Deb) Welling, Mary Lisa Welling Faust, LuAnn (Duke) Downey Polich, special niece Emily Miller Burdick and many good friends and neighbors including her personal care manager for many years, Phyllis Lloyd. In addition to her husband, Lu was preceded in death by her parents, brother Vern Welling and sister Catherine "Kay" Welling Downey.
