Funeral services for Henry A. "Hank" Neels Sr., 79, of East Moline, IL, will be 10:00AM Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline, IL. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation will be 3:00-7:00PM Wednesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Hank died Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Trinity, Rock Island, surrounded by his family. Memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer's Association. Hank was born November 19, 1930 in Blairsville, PA, the son of Charles and Dora Cagle Neels. He married Mary Lou Ryker in 1949. He later married Maxine (Pulford) Bensenberg May 26, 1974 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline. He had worked for the Rock Island Lines, Johnson Mechanical, Brady Company, and the East Moline Correctional Center. He retired from the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 25 in 1981, after a construction accident. Hank had been very active in the community. He served on the East Moline City Council for 22 years and was acting mayor of East Moline during the flood of 1965. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping, politics, and spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include: wife, Maxine Neels of East Moline; daughters and son-in-law, Sandy and Rob Connors of Coal Valley, IL, Margo Bensenberg of Milan, IL; sons and daughters-in-law, Hank and Vicki Neels Jr. of East Moline, Greg and Nancy Neels of Cape Fair, MO; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Rosa Neels of Bowie, TX, Donald and Blanche Neels of Great Falls, MT; sister-in-law, Lou Neels of DeLand, FL; and his faithful companion, Heidi II.
